Common Indoor Air Quality FAQs in Plant City, FL

Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers to the condition of the air within your living or working space, which can be affected by pollutants, humidity, and ventilation. The World Health Organization estimates that poor IAQ contributes to millions of premature deaths annually due to respiratory illnesses. For Florida residents, high humidity levels can lead to increased mold and allergen presence, further impacting IAQ.
Signs of poor IAQ include persistent respiratory problems, excessive dust, musty odors, and high indoor humidity. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) recommends regular air quality assessments to detect pollutants like mold spores, dust, and VOCs.
HVAC air purifiers filter airborne contaminants like dust, bacteria, and allergens as air circulates through your HVAC system. Some purifiers, such as HEPA or activated carbon filters, can remove up to 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, according to Energy.gov
Yes, simple steps like frequently replacing HVAC filters, using stand alone purifiers, and increasing ventilation can make a significant difference in IAQ. Studies show that replacing air filters regularly can improve HVAC system efficiency by up to 15% and reduce energy costs.
Changing your HVAC filter every 1-3 months is generally recommended to maintain good IAQ. In high-pollen areas like Plant City, changing filters more frequently—especially during peak seasons—can reduce allergen levels indoors. According to the EPA’s ENERGY STAR program, regular filter changes not only improve IAQ but also help lower energy consumption by reducing system strain.
Absolutely. Humidifiers and dehumidifiers help maintain optimal humidity levels, which is crucial for IAQ. High humidity can lead to mold growth, while low humidity may cause respiratory irritation. For areas like Plant City, using a dehumidifier can be beneficial, especially in summer. According to the CDC, controlling humidity is key in preventing mold and maintaining a healthy indoor environment.
Indoor air pollution comes from various sources including household cleaners, cooking fumes, pet dander, and outdoor pollutants. Poor ventilation exacerbates the buildup of these contaminants indoors. According to the EPA, common indoor pollutants can lead to health issues, particularly in areas where ventilation is limited.
UV lights installed in HVAC systems eliminate airborne pathogens like bacteria and viruses, enhancing IAQ by reducing microbial growth. Research from CDC supports UV light’s effectiveness in neutralizing contaminants.
While indoor plants like snake plants and spider plants help absorb CO2, their impact on IAQ is limited. Studies from NCBI show that plants can be a helpful supplementary solution, but they can’t replace the efficiency of HVAC filters or air purifiers in removing pollutants and allergens.
For allergy sufferers, HEPA filters are highly effective, capturing up to 99.97% of airborne allergens such as pollen and dust mites. Electrostatic filters can also help by attracting particles with an electric charge, improving indoor air.
Whole-house air purifiers are integrated systems that clean air throughout your home by trapping pollutants in your HVAC’s ductwork. Unlike portable purifiers, they cover a wider area and offer comprehensive air filtration. According to Energy.gov, these purifiers can significantly reduce allergens and VOCs for a healthier indoor environment.
Proper ventilation allows fresh air to replace stale air, reducing pollutant levels indoors. This is crucial in climates like Florida’s, where high humidity can lead to mold and dust mites. The ASHRAE recommends ventilation as a key measure in IAQ management, and Mission Air Services provides expert solutions for homes and businesses in Plant City.
Poor IAQ can result in symptoms like headaches, fatigue, and irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat. Chronic exposure may worsen asthma, allergies, and other respiratory issues. According to the American Lung Association, high-risk individuals should prioritize IAQ for their health.
Yes, mold releases spores into the air, significantly affecting IAQ and causing respiratory issues. Florida’s high humidity levels can promote mold growth, especially in moist areas.
Regular HVAC maintenance is essential for IAQ, as dirt and contaminants can spread through your system. Routine maintenance helps reduce allergens and keeps your HVAC running efficiently.

Absolutely one of the most professional companies I have dealt with in the 24 years I have owned this home. I had been dealing with an issue from another HVAC vendor for 10 weeks prior to contacting Mission Air Services. From the first phone call to schedule the diagnostic, to the final fix - this team was attentive, quick and competent. In moments, the team that came out to my home identified the problem that was caused by the first HVAC company and also missed by a second technician I had called. Because I had a case open from the manufacturer, Mission Air Services connected with them, making the subsequent fix and management of the warranty parts seamless. The first visit, they got started late in the evening (after 6 p.m.) and stayed almost 3 hours working on the problem on a Friday night prior to a holiday weekend. If there hadn't been another failed part in the air handler (likely from the first issue), it would have ended there. However the part had to be ordered (the distributor was closed for the weekend) and they were here promptly on Tuesday. My equipment was not abused while they worked on the inside and outside units, where some vendors throw the panels and screws in the dirt. I was treated with dignity and respect throughout the 2 visits required to restore the equipment, and all questions I had during the process were explained in ways that a layperson could understand. Several other communications were done via text and were answered timely. Each time I needed to communicate via voice, the phone was answered and questions were resolved while on a single call. I highly recommend this team, especially if you need someone to identify and resolve your issues with a deep understanding of HVAC and the right tools for the job. Thanks Kelli, Scott and Josh for quality work! Anifur LucianAugust 20, 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
